Few opportunities exist today for an open exchange of ideas between the various members of the fire community. Twenty years ago it was common for a fire conference to attract a large audience from operations, research, education and industry. These meetings provided a platform for focusing attention on issues and established the informal networks that developed solutions. The current environment of travel restrictions, reduced budgets and a smaller workforce together have limited the number of gatherings where those who fight fire can meet with those that provide the services and products that support fire operations.

This conference can play an important role in setting the tone for future collaboration and innovation within the fire community.
